THE JUNCTION - home of venn innovation!
Renovations continuing for offices, meeting areas, and workspaces
We’re taking names and getting ready as renovations continue at The Junction, home to Venn Innovation.
“This is THE location for tech businesses,” states Venn’s CEO Doug Robertson. “No where else in our region offers Tier 1, backbone internet service, thanks to the Fibre Center, an anchor tenant at The Junction. Add to that all the shared infrastructure - office furniture and equipment, wi-fi/internet service, in-house café (with full-service kitchen), 100+ parking spaces (free), and proximity to downtown and highways - it’s a premiere location.”
Perhaps one of the key elements for any tech company or startup looking for a home is the access to our tech ecosystem, he states. “Venn Innovation has a growing tech ecosystem with programs and services to connect tech companies with local and global resources that can guide them to grow and thrive. Support like that is invaluable to a tech startup or a company that wants to scale up.”
There is also the concept of community, says Doug. “We have just come through a very difficult and challenging few years. We’ve lost opportunities to gather as a community and there have been huge changes in the notion of workplace. Recognizing the power of space as building blocks for community is more important now than ever. That’s another advantage of The Junction - it can help us reclaim and reinvigorate a workspace that nurtures and fosters genuine connections among individuals, residents, entrepreneurs. This is a tech gathering space, a place for what’s next!”
With the launch of the new space expected in early fall, Venn Innovation is accepting applications and enquiries of interest from tech businesses and those who are looking to startup a tech company. The renovations will mean more efficient, adaptable and appealing office space in addition to meeting rooms, event space and a learning centre. “With about 8,000 square feet of hybrid office space, we offer a variety of workplace solutions - hot desks, co-working modules, and dedicated turnkey offices, available short or long-term. The space is very versatile.“

ATLANTIC FINTECH recoverS millions in fight against international cyber crime
Gray Wolf Analytics joins international consortium
to hunt illegal hackers
A recent Twitter thread outlined how hackers stole up to $12 million of cryptocurrency from owners through their ‘digital wallets’ in less than four months. Even before it was reported, an international investigative consortium of forensic companies was formed to hunt down the missing funds, with Fredericton crypto-sleuthing startup Gray Wolf Analytics playing a key role in the investigation,
So far, Gray Wolf has identified 102 wallet addresses associated with the hacks, collectively containing about $7.8 million of cryptocurrency. Gray Wolf has also uncovered evidence that the hacks are all relying on permutations of the same core technology, offering investigators yet more clues.
“The sophistication is growing — sophistication in terms of cyber crime, sophistication in terms of moving digital assets,” said Gray Wolf chairman Dhirendra Shukla, adding that his company’s methodology involves a combination of both software tools and human investigative work. MORE ON CANADA’S BESIEGED
CYBER SECURITY
Canada is getting hit hard - and often - by criminal hackers. According to the Communications Security Establishments (CSE) latest annual report.
Canada’s electronic spy agency says it blocked 2.3 trillion “malicious actions” against the federal government over the last fiscal year. That averages out to 6.3 billion disruptions every day! The report provides high level details on its cyber operations outside Canada and efforts to defend the country and its critical infrastructure from foreign hacking operations, political interference and “cybercrime.
The government’s 2022 budget earmarked $875-million over five years for CSE to bolster its efforts to fend off cyberattacks on Canada and its infrastructure. Thanks to a 2019 legal change, CSE is able to conduct “foreign cyber operations” as part of its work.

ATLANTIC MARKET INTELLIGENCE - BECAUSE YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER!
It’s summertime and most of us are looking forward to some down time and vacation – a chance to recharge our batteries!
Well, our businesses also need regular recharging to keep current, relevant, ahead of the curve – successful! We want to remind our companies, startups and entrepreneurs that innovation is empowered by the right information, and the Atlantic Market Intelligence (MI) program can help with that.
MI is a free program for tech-based startups from across Atlantic Canada. It provides information to help them understand their market, uncover key trends involving their technology, their environment, and other elements impacting growth.
Kyle Murray-Zelmer, Ph.D. leads the program and is adept at researching data for companies, mining financial and statistical data along with business and government reports. His reports help companies understand their competitive landscape, find potential investors, gauging market sizing and more.
When it launched its website earlier this year, it was reported that:
MI helped over 280 Atlantic Canadian startups in MedTech, FinTech, CleanTech, RegTech, OceanTech, EduTech, and many others;
Clients have leveraged a combined report value in excess of $10.5 million; and
Client companies employ close to 2,000 people and have gone on the raise $394 USD million in investment.
The MI program is delivered as a joint effort between Venn Innovation, Volta, Startup Zone, Genesis and Invest Nova Scotia, and is made possible by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
If you are a tech-focused entrepreneur with owned or developing intellectual property (IP), and have your operations based in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island, visit the MI website. You’ll be glad you did!

ADVOCACY PAYS OFF WITH ADDITIONS TO CANADA’S TECH TALENT POOL
Starting next month, skilled foreign workers in the U.S. holding an H-1B visa – and their families - will be eligible to come to Canada, with the government planning to accept up to 10,000 applications within a one-year window.
This groundbreaking program is part of Canada’s broader Tech Talent Attraction Strategy (https://lnkd.in/gXP3DQxV). It will enhance our domestic tech talent pool and offer skilled newcomers greater stability and job flexibility. Canada’s Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, made that announcement at the 2023 Collision Conference in Toronto, following advocacy efforts from members of the Canada's Tech Network | Réseau Tech Canada – including Venn Innovation. We recognize that this is a win-win for talented newcomers and for Canada, as it helps advance our position in the global tech and innovation economy.
